JOB SUMMARY

 

The Maintenance position provides routine and preventative maintenance of equipment and interior and exterior structure of the building; performs mechanical duties and other duties as assigned.  The position is expected to use personal judgment in carrying out routine duties and responsibilities at the Parish and School.

 

            This job description reflects management's assignment of essential job responsibilities; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.  All the duties and standards within this job description will be performed according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines outlined in the policy and procedures manuals.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

            

  1. Perform minor plumbing, electrical repair, carpentry work and painting.
  2. Replace broken windows, repairs doors, door locks and installs interior features as blinds, etc.
  3. Inspect and treats boilers on daily basis during winter months.  Notifies Business Manager about issues that require outsourcing.
  4. Clean filters on air conditioning units during season.
  5. Maintain records of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance procedures.  
  6. Maintain all equipment and inspects belts, changes oil and repairs broken parts as necessary and       alerts Business Manager about issues beyond routine maintenance.
  7. Clear driveways of snow and ice.
  8. Cut grass, trims trees and bushes as needed. 
  9. Is responsible for maintenance of any tool belonging to the school.
  10. Prepare for graduation set-up of platforms, stands, and after school activities.
  11. Assist Business Manager/Principal with projects as needed. 
  12. Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for this job.
  13. Call companies and work together to accomplish the tasks needed for maintaining the building and grounds.
  14. Coordinate and Communicate with maintenance committee and work as a team to accomplish tasks
    OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

                 Complies with federal, state and local safety laws.


  1. Maintains a neat and safe work area.
  2. Various daily tasks as necessary including but not limited to delivery of items within the building,   facilitate health/safety inspections and implement citation corrections, inspections of fire   extinguishers and boiler system and assisting faculty and staff.
  3. Order supplies and ensure that all equipment is operational.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

            Required: Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children             program.

 

            Education:     High School degree required; Mechanical training and certification is preferred. 

 

            Experience:    A minimum of two years’ prior experience is required.

 

            Job Related Skills:     An understanding of communications and the Catholic perspective; the ability to serve others; strong basic knowledge in mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, gas motors, hydraulics, hot water and steam boilers and the use of a chainsaw.

 

            Interpersonal Skills:  The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.   

            

            Language skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively communicate to customers, vendors, and other employees of the Diocese.

 

            Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

            Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

            Working Environment: The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.   The Parish is a smoke-free facility.

The Physical Demands Strength Rating reflects the estimated overall strength requirement of the job.  It represents the strength requirements, which are considered to be important for average, successful work performance.  

 

                        Heavy Work:  Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
